Job Title: User Support Specialist

Description: Description: Summary: The User Support Specialist is the first point-of-contact for user support. This position supports the Center's personal computers and peripherals, printers, telephones, servers, and network. The User Support Specialist is the first point-of-contact for user support and is expected to work 80-90% of issues to completion independently.

Job duties and responsibilities:

User Support:
Responds to requests for support in a timely manner; instructs users on the use of Windows 7, Office 2010, printers, copiers, scanners and other software and equipment as required; sets up projectors, screens and laptops for meetings; sets up new user accounts, computers and phones for new employees; install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, or peripheral equipment; refers major hardware or software problems to vendors and technicians for service; confers with users to establish requirements for new systems or system modifications; tracks interaction with users in a ticketing system.


Training: Sends educational emails that assist users with their daily activities (e.g. how to convert a file to PDF, or how to create a rule in Outlook); in conjunction with the IT Director, develops and maintains training materials and system documentation.

Printer maintenance:
Maintains several workgroup printers; calls for service when necessary.


Supervisory responsibilities:
None.


Qualifications:
The candidate selected for this position will have between 5 and 10 years of experience in a similar position, providing end-user support. A technical degree is preferred but a candidate will be considered if they have additional related experience. The ability to multi-task and cope with shifting priorities while maintaining a professional demeanor is essential. Strong organizational skills and experiencing documenting, tracking, and resolving issues from start to finish required. Excellent reading comprehension and research and writing skills are required. Certifications such as Microsoft Office User Specialist, A+, and Network+ are helpful but not required. Position requires ability to lift computer equipment up to 50 pounds.
