Job Title: Associate Director of Leadership Gifts
Organization: American Civil Liberties (ACLU)
Region: East Coast
Description: The American Civil Liberties Union Foundation (ACLU), founded in 1920, is a nationwide, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, with more than 500,000 members and is dedicated to the principles of liberty and equality embodied in the U.S. Constitution. The Development Department of the National office in New York City is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Associate Director of Leadership Gifts.

OVERVIEW

The ACLU is our nation's guardian of liberty, working daily in courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties that the Constitution and laws of the United States guarantee everyone in this country. These rights include, the First Amendment, the right to equal protection under the law, the right to due process, and the right to privacy. The ACLU also works to extend protection to segments of our population that have traditionally been denied their rights, including people of color; women; lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people; prisoners; and people with disabilities.

In 2005, the ACLU launched the Leading Freedom Forward (LFF) Campaign. This uniquely created campaign had a dual focus on increasing both major and planned gifts and was the largest campaign ever for an advocacy organization. LFF raised $407 million over the past five years and surpassed its goal of $250 million, bringing in $150 million in cash gifts and $250 million in planned giving when it closed in late September of last year. The major gift component of the campaign was extremely successful, bringing in seven and eight-figure gifts and increasing the overall size of donations by donors from gifts in the thousands to gifts in the millions. The ACLU development department continues to be successful due to its quality leadership and great major gifts strategy, as well as its collaboration between affiliates and the national office.
