Location: Stevens Point, WI with frequent in-state travel Organization Description United Council of UW Students is a coalition of 20 UW campuses, representing over 140,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Founded in 1960, United Council is a non-partisan, non-profit, student-directed organization committed to enhancing the quality of student life and protecting access to higher education in Wisconsin. United Council's mission is to represent all students of the University of Wisconsin System and advocate for them on issues of higher education pertaining to value, quality, and student experience. General Position Description Under the supervision of the Field Director, the regional field organizers will actively organize to involve students on their own behalf in running United Council campaigns on 3-6 campuses in the University of Wisconsin system. The field organizers will be expected to develop leaders and train large groups of students to take part in United Council activities, particularly relating to grassroots organizing and advocacy. This is a pilot program for United Council, so field organizers will be expected to be flexible and capable of adapting to the fast-paced environment of non-profit grassroots organizing on college campuses. Organizers will be support development of strategy, tactics, and messaging for United Council efforts on their particular campuses, and then will be expected to keep detailed records of this activity to report to the Field Director. Responsibilities: ? Reports directly to the Field Director on a regular basis ? Work with both two-year and four-year campuses to organize students to run United Council campaigns and to create and implement campaigns advocating on their own behalf in campus-based activities ? Travel to campuses within assigned region to support United Council activities and services ? Travel to Madison on a monthly basis to take part in regular field meetings ? Recruit students to and personally attend all statewide conventions and conferences ? Track and report on all United Council campaigns, activities, and actions on assigned campuses ? Design and implement training sessions and materials for students on organizing ? Manage student volunteers and interns on regional campuses as part of campaign and field work ? Coordinate contact with non-member campuses to build relationships on those campuses and engage them in United Council ? Coordinate with and make connections with local coalition partners on campus and in the community ? Work to fulfill the organization's promises to membership, which include: ? Students are heard, supported, and enabled to affect change ? United Council's presence in government is respected and valued ? The quality and value of both education and the student experience is continually improving and maximized ? United Council recognizes and advocates for the University of Wisconsin System's link to the prosperity of the State of Wisconsin Minimum Qualifications: ? Willing to travel 80% of time and work long hours ? Must have valid driver's license ? Reliable and insured transportation required ? Must have experience planning and implementing grassroots campaigns ? Grassroots organizing skills and experience in: recruitment and retention, leadership development, strategic planning, volunteer management, and utilizing the media ? Ability to work independently and take initiative ? Ability to work with and recruit diverse groups of students ? Knowledge of student-oriented public higher education issues ? Demonstrated ability to work in cross-cultural situations including diversities of race, gender, sexual orientation & socioeconomic class ? Excellent written and verbal presentation and communication skills ? Attention to detail and time management skills Preferred Skills: ? Knowledge of the University of Wisconsin System and student involvement throughout its history ? Experience working with students, student organizations, and student governments ? Knowledge of and experience with social media ? Experience working within a 501c(3) nonprofit setting ? Bachelor's degree preferred To apply: Email applications are preferred.
