You may be the right person for an exciting internship with Corporate Accountability International! This is a skills-building internship in which interns will take on significant projects to advance Corporate Accountability International's mission, including the Campaign Challenging Big Tobacco. The Campaign Challenging Big Tobacco is working to see to the implementation of the global tobacco treaty (formally known as the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control), primarily by preventing Big Tobacco from interfering in the treaty's lifesaving measures, setting a powerful precedent for corporate accountability across industries. The Campaign Challenging Big Tobacco Research Intern will advance the campaign's joint work plan with the World Health Organization Tobacco Free Initiative by researching and monitoring the tobacco industries around the world and populating a database of information and tools used to challenge tobacco industry interference in public health policy. The projects will be coupled with training sessions on action planning, campaign research, media outreach, fundraising, and many other topics. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: - Further develop the Campaign Challenging Big Tobacco and Corporate Accountability International's analysis of the tobacco industry, tobacco industry efforts to interfere in the implementation of the global tobacco treaty, and policies that effectively safeguard public policy from industry interference. - Monitor, track and provide analysis on issues relevant to tobacco and the tobacco industry including market and polling data, and the health effects of tobacco policies; - Monitor and analyze developments in national and international policies and industry market data; - Advance the Campaign Challenging Big Tobacco campaign strategies, with a focus on building international support for broad implementation of the life-saving health measures of the global tobacco treaty and challenging industry interference. - Develop corporate research profiles that track industry performance and trends as well as provide detailed information relevant to the operations of our corporate targets; and - Assist with the preparation of policy briefs and written materials for internal and external consumption, which may include corporate profiles, blog postings, and campaign materials for international meetings. QUALIFICATIONS: - Demonstrated commitment to corporate accountability and progressive social change; - Highly effective written and verbal communication skills; - Organizational skills and the ability to juggle several tasks while meeting deadlines; - Experience in a high-energy campaign or non-profit setting preferable; - Commitment to bringing the campaign back to your campus or community; - Fluency in Spanish or French a plus; - Relevant graduate level coursework or professional experience a plus; - Experience developing and maintaining Google sites or a similar online tool. DETAILS: Location: Boston, MA Duration: September-December 2012 (Exact dates TBD). Hours: Minimum commitment of 15-20 hours /week with occasional additional hours for events. Days are flexible depending on student schedule and internship manager needs. Compensation: This is an unpaid internship, however, students may receive course credit for their internship. Training: Classroom sessions and ongoing trainings will be provided by senior campaign staff.
