| Description: | Compassion & Choices is a nationally recognized nonprofit working to improve care and expand choice at the end of life. We aggressively pursue legal reform to promote pain management, put teeth in advance directives and legalize aid in dying. Our Consultation Program also helps clients and their loved ones face the end of life with calm facts and choices of action during a difficult time. We are currently requesting proposals for a Vermont Field Organizer. This is an independent contractor position managed by the National Field Manager and this person will work across departments in the national organization. The Vermont Field Organizer The Vermont Campaign Manager will lead and manage day-to-day operations of Compassion & Choices Vermont campaign consistent with the organization’s mission and advancing our advocacy and client service goals. Goals include: 1) Building the full range of end of life options into the openly practiced medical standard of care. 2) Advancement of statute to appropriately provide medical standard of practice for end of life care options. Responsibilities include: 1. Planning and Strategy: a. Develop and execute plans for the implementation of our state advocacy goals and provision of End of Life Consultation program. b. Engage in ongoing analysis of changing environment and provide strategic solutions to challenges. 2. Volunteer management: a. Build and maintain leadership volunteer structures including Executive Council (local campaign leadership) and Physician Advisory Council. b. Build a base of activists to engage in advocacy efforts. c. Support development of End of Life Consultation program clinical and outreach volunteers. 3. Organize field outreach and actions to support advocacy and client support goals. a. Personally representing the organization to the community. b. Engage in community organizing for legislative advocacy including but not limited i. Constituent mobilization, recruitment, training and assignment. ii. Electronic organizing and social networking. iii. Advocacy visits and hearing attendance. iv. Public education and community group meeting presentations c. Plan and execute expert speaker tours and public education events with national spokespeople. d. Build coalition support for advocacy goals by working in existing coalitions or establishing new relationships with like-minded groups. e. Drive and manage earned media and paid advertising strategies to support goals. 4. Legislative Advocacy a. Developing and maintaining legislative relationships. b. Work with lobbyist on legislative targeting. c. Mobilize coalitions that advance our advocacy agenda. 5. Build a base of financial support. a. Engage in donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of supporters to help meet fundraising goals. b. Planning and executing gift fundraising activities; focusing on major gift cultivation and solicitation, house parties and supporter drives. c. Educate the public and professionals about our mission, goals and accomplishments through public presentations, publications, the media, and personal contacts. Qualifications -Strong personal commitment to the end-of-life choice movement and the goals and objectives of Compassion & Choices. -Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university. -At least 3 years’ experience in campaign management field coordinator, communications staff or similar experience. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills. -Excellent public speaking skills, including ability to talk about controversial issues to a diverse audience. -Strong leadership skills, including experience hiring and training a staff and contractors. -Experience working in a complex national organization with local responsibilities -Curiosity, integrity and an affable nature. -This is an independent contractor position and does not include benefits or tax withholding.
