Title: Western NC Field Organizer Position: Temporary, Full-Time Location: Charlotte Dates: August - October, 2012 Hours: 30 hours / week General Description: Planned Parenthood Health Systems, Inc. is looking for a highly motivated, responsible, outgoing, creative, pro-choice person with political experience to manage the agency's grassroots activities in Western North Carolina. The Field Organizer will work closely with the Director of Public Affairs to conduct grassroots activities while building capacity and infrastructure. The Coordinator will also provide key support to the PPHS Action Fund, particularly around volunteer activities in targeted political candidate and issue-based campaigns. This position will be based out of our Charlotte, NC office. SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate with the Director of Public Affairs to implement a civic engagement campaign and field organizing program designed to increase the number of pro-choice, pro-family planning activists in targeted region. Responsibilities: -Register eligible voters and collect voter pledge cards as part of a large scale civic engagement project -Recruit, train and manage volunteers for community outreach events and voter registration efforts -Seek out community events for tabling and volunteer recruitment -Coordinate and staff voter registration tables at community events -Schedule volunteers, including reminder calls and confirmation emails -Ensure compliance with North Carolina laws related to voter registration -Complete data entry and management on an ongoing basis -Establish regular communication with Planned Parenthood Health Systems (PPHS) staff regarding voter registration efforts -Assist and occasionally manage/run volunteer events -Research and draft memos as needed -Recruit and help with supporter turnout at key events -Provide assistance with other PPHS tasks as needed Qualifications: -Support Planned Parenthood's mission -A strong and proven commitment to progressive values and civic engagement, especially within traditionally underrepresented communities and youth -Have excellent communication and writing skills -Have reliable access to a computer with internet -Available and willing to work some weekday evenings and weekends -Outgoing, self-motivated, and detail-orientated -Complete a positive background check, and provide at least 3 references -Must have a valid driver's license and preferably have own transportation -Voter registration experience and civic engagement experience a plus Personal: Understanding of and commitment to PPHS goals and mission. Must be able to prioritize and juggle multiple projects at once, and under time constraints. Good communication and strong organizational skills. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Must be able to take initiative. Requires in state travel. Vision Hearing and Speaking: Use of automobile will be required. Required to read and analyze data daily. Required to communicate with staff and public in person and via telephone daily. Agility and Dexterity: Must input and retrieve data daily. Must perform written communication and use office equipment daily. Mental: Required to read, comprehend and analyze data daily |
