Job Title: Grassroots Organizing Intern

REPORTS TO: Grassroots Organizing Coordinator

HOURS: 20 hours per week, flexible scheduling Monday-Friday between 10am and 6pm. Some nights and weekends (If working a night or weekend, you can take back the time by altering the M-F schedule).

COMPENSATION: This position is unpaid. NARAL Pro-Choice New York will help secure academic credit if applicable.

SUMMARY: NARAL Pro-Choice New York's advocacy department works on the political, legislative and community levels to protect safe, legal abortion and to expand the full range of reproductive rights for all women. The Grassroots Organizing Intern will work to increase our base of volunteers and activists and engage them in our advocacy campaigns and public outreach. In the fall of 2012, this work will emphasize helping to elect NARAL Pro-Choice New York-endorsed candidates running for state office.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Support efforts to elect pro-choice candidates in state elections.
-Work with Grassroots Organizing Coordinator to engage our supporters in advocacy campaigns and public outreach around issues of reproductive health and rights.
-Help plan trainings, educational workshops, and other events to recruit and engage volunteers.
-Support efforts to pass crucial pro-choice legislation by involving supporters in grassroots lobbying.
-Lead public outreach activities including tabling, phone banking, and petition collection.
-Secure, train and supervise NARAL volunteers/activists to participate in the advocacy events and actions described above.
-Maintain volunteer database.

QUALIFICATIONS:
-A strong commitment to working for reproductive rights and social justice
-Interest in grassroots organizing, including volunteer/activist coordination.
-Outgoing personality and strong communication skills
-Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills
-MS Office computer skills, particularly Excel
