The magazine?s goals are to raise the level of discussion on the Internet about feminist and progressive topics, and to give feminist and progressive voices a home for their writing. As described by a recent review, On The Issues Magazine carries a ?tremendous collection that stands out for its combination of quality, quantity, accessibility … and readability. It notably bridges common gaps between academia and new media that prevent great work from being read by a mass audience. The Senior Editor will be responsible for overseeing the editorial content of the online publication, including coordinating the work of freelance writers and an associate editor. The senior editor will conceptualize topics, story ideas, from assignment through completion, and execute ongoing content and other updates. The prospective candidate needs to have strong writing and editing skills, in depth-knowledge of feminism, politics and activism, especially related to reproductive rights. The Senior Editor reports to and shall serve as editor to the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief. Responsibilities include: managing the calendar, planning and payment, and the ability to work with associate-level staff. The candidate must be familiar with qualified freelance writers and have experience with online media as well as traditional journalism. The Senior Editor will also guide, contribute to and participate in a redesign project, to begin imminently. Qualifications: * 5+ years writing/editing experience. * Managing Editor and/or Senior experience preferred * At least 2 years online experience. * College degree, preferably with English or journalism concentration or equivalent experience. * Basic understanding of HTML and online media. * Demonstrated journalism skills. * Strong writing, editing, research, communication, and management skills. * Detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines effectively and multitask. * Interest in and/or experience with reproductive rights, politics, women?s rights or activism. |
