The Vera Institute of Justice, founded in 1961, is a private, nonprofit organization that combines expertise in research, demonstration projects, and technical assistance to help leaders in government and civil society improve the systems people rely on for justice and safety. The Institute?s three-person Human Resources Department, serves approximately 175 employees, located primarily in offices in New York City, Washington, DC, and New Orleans. The department seeks an intern for the fall semester of 2012.

Responsibilities
The intern will be involved with projects regarding recruitment, diversity and increasing employee engagement. The intern may be called upon to research new programs, assist in crafting new initiatives and maintaining the everyday flow of information regarding current programs. The ideal intern will receive academic credit for the semester.

Qualifications
Undergraduate students are encouraged to apply: Preference will be given to candidates with strong organizational skills, maturity, attention to detail, and competency in Microsoft Office Suit, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

Compensation
The internship is unpaid, however, applicants are encouraged to seek academic credit through their university or college, and Vera will gladly assist the student in working with the university or college to make arrangements and meet requirements.

Schedule
The Internship has flexibility in scheduling, however, Vera anticipates an intern?s availability to be at least 14 hours per week. Preference is for an intern who is available 1 to 2 days a week, with hours arranged around class schedules or other requirements of the intern?s credit-bearing academic programs. Depending on the needs of Vera and the desires of the intern, the internship may be extended through the Spring of 2013 (an academic year).
