Job Title: 2012 Fall Work/Family Advocacy Internship

Description: The National Partnership for Women & Families promotes fairness in the workplace, reproductive health and rights, access to quality affordable health care, and policies that help women and men meet the dual demands of work and family. We believe that actions speak louder than words, and for four decades we have fought for every major policy advance that has helped women and families.

The 2012 Fall Work/Family Advocacy Intern will work on challenging projects across the National Partnership's Work/Family agenda, including paid sick days, paid family leave, workplace flexibility, and more. At the National Partnership, interns are integrally involved in our day-to-day work, and undertake a wide range of activities. Activities will help interns develop skills needed for work in the policy and advocacy world, including legislative and policy research, analysis, writing for a variety of audiences, and coalition-building. Interns will also have the opportunity to attend briefings, hearings, and other events on Capitol Hill and in other venues around town.

Qualifications include strong interpersonal, writing, and computer skills; the ability to manage multiple tasks and take initiative; ability to work independently and a significant degree of organization. Knowledge of Microsoft Access a plus. Preference will be given to applicants with experience and demonstrated interest or academic studies in political science, public policy and/or women's issues. Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply.

The internship is unpaid, but is available for course credit and may be full-time or part-time.

The Workplace Fairness Project at the National Partnership for Women & Families is looking for a Workplace Fairness Legal Intern to help ensure equal employment opportunity. Our Workplace Fairness priorities include equal pay, employment nondiscrimination, family and medical leave, and judicial nominations.

Duties will include researching and analyzing legal and policy matters; drafting legal briefs, reports, talking points, fact sheets, and other written materials; attending meetings, hearings, and briefings; and monitoring federal and state court litigation.

Qualifications include strong research, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills; the ability to manage multiple tasks and take initiative; and the ability to work independently.
