Polaris Project seeks a Director of Development to lead the dynamic fundraising program of our growing non-profit. The Director of Development works in close partnership with the Executive Management Team to raise revenue for the organization by using time-tested as well as cutting-edge development techniques. This position oversees the entire development program, with a heavy focus on new individual, corporate, and foundation prospect development and cultivation, while retaining/upgrading current donors. She/he will be expected to spend a minimum of 20 percent of time to identify, cultivate, and regularly solicit new and existing prospects and donors. Some travel is required. This position will be supervised by the Deputy Director of External Relations and will directly supervise at least two full-time development professionals. The position also supports the fundraising efforts of the Executive Director and other key staff, Board of Directors, and the Polaris Project Vision 2020 National Leadership Council. A successful candidate must excel in a fast-paced and evolving environment that values innovation, efficiency, collaboration, service, and social entrepreneurship. She/he must also have the skills to network with new prospects, build relationships with donors, effectively communicate, and manage a high volume of details to support organizational fundraising. Responsibilities: -Develop, manage, execute, and analyze a comprehensive fundraising strategy including major and individual gifts, foundation relations, government grants, corporate contributions, and direct mail/online fundraising; -Provide direct supervision to the Grants Officer and Development Officer and mentorship to the Development Associate and Development Fellows; -Identify new prospective donors, and cultivate, solicit, and steward current donors; -Build a corporate giving program including direct gifts, corporate grants, employee giving, and matching gifts; -In collaboration with the Grants Officer, oversee the grant-writing process, including editing grant applications and reports to ensure timely and high-quality submissions; -Collaborate with the Communications team to implement a solid communications strategy to support online and offline fundraising initiatives, including donor solicitation materials and an annual report; -Ensure accurate and timely input of donor data and production of accurate internal reports, and -Coordinate with Finance and Executive Management teams to ensure that funds are properly recorded and that grant budgets and reports are in alignment. Required Qualifications: -Demonstrated ability to build strong and long- lasting relationships; -Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written; -Hunger to immediately increase revenue quickly; self-motivated, driven, demonstrated initiative; -Skilled at "reading" people with the natural talent to adapt discussions based on varying audiences; -Integrity, comfort, and ability to gain the trust and confidence of supporters and stakeholders; -Positive, resilient attitude with a strong willingness to give and receive constructive feedback; -Excellent problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, commitment to innovation, attention to detail, and solutions-oriented; -Highly organized, reliable, and able to set and balance multiple priorities; -Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment across multiple programs and departments, and -Willingness and ability to travel as needed. Preferred Qualifications: -BA/BS degree; -Minimum five to seven years of fundraising or relevant experience, preferably with demonstrated success of raising revenue from individuals and/or corporations; -Proven track record of managing a development program and meeting goals from diverse sources; -Experience with budget preparation and financial management, analysis, and revenue forecasting; -Experience in developing earned revenue streams for non-profits; -Experience, competence, and confidence in supervising and managing staff and volunteers; -Experience in planning and executing special events such as awards programs, issue awareness walks, and galas; -Experience with development databases, including Salesforce, and -Commitment to and interest in social justice and human rights; specific interest in human trafficking. -------------------------------------------------- PLEASE DO NOT FAX OR MAIL YOUR APPLICATION.
