Job Title: Summer Law Clerk

HOURS:

Full-time, 10 weeks, beginning in June 2013

COMPENSATION:

This position is unpaid. Applicants are
encouraged to seek funding from their law schools
and public interest fellowships. We can help
secure academic credit.

SUMMARY:

NARAL Pro-Choice New York is the leading pro-
choice political and advocacy organization in New
York State. The National Institute for
Reproductive Health is our education and program
arm working with state and local leaders to design
new approaches for removing barriers and improving
reproductive health care for all women. The
Institute offers strategic guidance, hands-on
support and funding to help state and local
leaders remove barriers to health care, win public
battles and change public policies. Together, we
are helping women in communities all across the
country gain access to the full range of quality
reproductive health care options, the freedom to
exercise their reproductive rights and the
opportunity to have healthy pregnancies. The
Institute is expanding its work to provide
additional financial and technical assistance to
support state partners? efforts to defeat anti-
choice bills, train pro-choice elected officials,
and other exciting new opportunities to enhance
the work of state-level advocates working to
improve reproductive health care for all women.
The law clerk/legal intern should expect to engage
in policy analysis of key pieces of legislation;
perform legal research and draft legal memoranda
to advance our policy priorities; and gain
experience working in state and national
coalitions working to advance reproductive rights.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

~Policy analysis of bills affecting
reproductive rights on the state level;
~Legal research and writing;
~Collaborating with state-level partners on
key policy issues

QUALIFICATIONS:
~First- or second-year law student;
~A commitment to and knowledge of
reproductive health and rights;
~Excellent legal research and writing
skills;
~Knowledge of and interest in the
legislative process
~Excellent organizational and interpersonal
skills, including exceptional attention to detail;
and
~Ability to work independently and as part
of a team
