| Description: | The Organization and Opportunity The Second Step (TSS), located in Newton, Mass., is seeking a passionate, seasoned executive director. Founded in 1992, TSS offers transitional housing, advocacy, safety planning, mentoring, children's programs, legal case management and an array of supportive services for families transitioning away from abuse. TSS breaks the cycle of domestic violence by providing survivors and their children with support services and transitional housing that empower them to remain free from abusive relationships and to lead productive lives. TSS recently completed an organizational assessment. Key strategic directions and priorities for the next two years include: - Strategic Planning - Strategic Partnership Development - Sustainable Practice Creation This is an excellent opportunity for a proven leader to put his/her imprimatur on a highly regarded, much-cherished local institution. The next leader will work with staff, board and community partners to find ways to sustain the excellent work and mission of TSS while ensuring the organization operates on solid financial ground. Responsibilities of the new executive director include: - Finance - Development - Organization Infrastructure and Staffing - Outreach and Collaboration - Community Visibility Profile of the Ideal Candidate The executive director will be an experienced, well-respected leader who combines strategic vision, operational excellence and financial management skills with proven fundraising ability. Excellent communication skills and a strong background in supervising and motivating staff are essential. The new ED must be a passionate and effective spokesperson for TSS and the issues of domestic violence, and must be able to work effectively with both the board and staff to help shape the future of the organization. S/he will be able to develop a leadership presence in the community and work in collaboration with community leaders and other organizations. The ideal candidate for Executive Director of The Second Step will bring many of the following attributes: - Experienced, respected nonprofit leader and collaborator - Strong track record of expanding revenue sources, diversified fundraising - Exceptional communication skills - A strategic and outcome-oriented thinker, experienced in strategic planning - Strong interpersonal and team-building skills; a consensus and partnership builder - Experience with a domestic violence and/ or social justice agency is preferred Application Guidelines This executive search is being conducted by Third Sector New England's Executive Transitions Program with Transition Consultant Deborah Langstaff.
