Students File Two Federal Complaints Against UC Berkeley for Mishandling Campus Sexual Assault Cases
31 current and former University of California at Berkeley filed two federal complaints against the college Wednesday, alleging that the university had failed to properly handle sexual assault cases within good time, investigate serial rapists, and take rape and harassment on campus seriously.
Compensation could come in the form of financial assistance, a safe place to stay, and physical and psychological health care.
"The men and women of our military deserve better," Gillibrand told The Washington Post.
"National ownership, leadership and responsibility are absolutely essential if we are to protect women and girls, but also men and boys, from these barbaric crimes."
A Maryland House of Delegates committee heard testimony yesterday on a bill that would require all state universities and colleges to administer an anonymous sexual violence survey every three years — to more accurately determine how many assaults are occurring on campuses — and then report those findings to the Maryland Higher Education Commission....
"Our initial review of Penn State's sexual harassment policy, compounded by a dramatic increase in the number of forcible sex offenses occurring on camp[us as reported by the university itself, raised legal concerns that compelled us to investigate."
A new report issued by the Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Statistics indicates that allegations of rape and sexual assault by prison inmates are increasing, and that 49 percent of the alleged crimes involve correctional officers.
