Save the Court for Women's Lives

Dear feminist activist,

Take Action

Capitol Switchboard: 202-224-3121

STEP 1: Email and call your Democratic Senators and urge them to vote NO on cloture or not to vote.

STEP 2: Call Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid (NV), Senate Democratic Whip Richard Durbin (IL), Ranking Member on the Judiciary Committee Patrick Leahy (VT), and the dean of the Democratic Senators, Robert Byrd (WV). Urge them to do everything in their power to prevent a vote on Alito.

STEP 3. Call Senators Lincoln Chafee (RI), and Olympia Snowe (ME)—these are self-proclaimed pro-choice Republican Senators who have not yet announced their positions on Alito. It is time to urge them to stand up for their beliefs by voting NO on cloture or by not voting and keeping Frist from getting the 60 votes he needs.

Exciting news! A group of Senate Democrats have launched a filibuster to block the confirmation of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. This is what we have been working for.

I don’t need to tell you how extremely important this fight is. A Justice Alito would roll back women’s rights, civil rights, environment protections, civil liberties, separation of church and state, disability rights, and would support a Bush power grab… the list goes on.

This is it – our chance to save the Supreme Court for women’s rights and civil rights!

The vote to end debate (cloture) and allow a vote on Samuel Alito is scheduled for Monday at 4:30 p.m. EST. A cloture vote, which Senate Republican Leader Frist has demanded, requires 60 votes to end debate and to move to vote for Alito. The burden is on Frist to gather 60 votes. We must stop the cloture vote by keeping the 60 votes away from him. We must urge all Senators to vote NO on cloture or not to vote, thereby keeping the filibuster going and preventing the vote on Alito.

We need you to take action today – now more than ever!
