The Center for Liberty of the ACLU?s National office in New York City is seeking a full-time Legal Administrative Assistant. OVERVIEW The Center for Liberty includes the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender & AIDS Project (LGBT & AIDS), the Reproductive Freedom Project, the Women?s Rights Project, and the Program on Freedom of Religion and Belief. The Center is dedicated to the principle that we are all entitled to determine the course of our lives based on who we are and what we believe, free from unreasonable government constraint and baseless stereotypes. The Legal Administrative Assistant will work with three or more professional staff members from the Center. S/he will be an integral part of program work, will attend regular program meetings and will have the opportunity to learn about current threats to liberty interests and the legal landscape for challenging them. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Take notes, keep track of deadlines, track and distribute relevant press and other materials for Center campaigns, including Campaign to End the Use of Religion to Discriminate. Conduct internet research. Schedule and arrange meetings, prepare materials and handle travel arrangements for Director and other staff. Maintain and organize legal, public education, state legislation and press files. Perform general administrative duties for the Center, including processing invoices, tracking expenses and case costs, generating expense reports, etc. Prepare, proofread and edit correspondence, legal documents and briefs. Perform other duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS A Bachelor?s Degree and/or 1-2 years of work experience preferred. Self-starter and ability to take initiative. Strong organizational, time management and administrative skills. Detail oriented and adept at managing multiple tasks simultaneously. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; excellent telephone manner. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and possess experience with Internet research. Excellent writing and proofreading skills. Ability to work independently, as well as within a team. Commitment to the mission and goals of the ACLU. COMPENSATION Salary for this position is $41,586. Generous benefits package provided.
