Katherine Spillar, Executive Vice President, Feminist Majority Foundation Executive Editor, Ms. Magazine
Katherine Spillar is the Executive Vice President of the Feminist Majority Foundation and the Feminist Majority. One of the founders, Spillar has been a driving force in executing the organizations’ diverse programs securing women’s rights domestically and globally since its inception in 1987. As the Executive Editor of Ms. magazine, Spillar oversees the editorial content of the magazine and website, as well as the magazine’s program to expand its use in women’s studies and other college courses as a teaching text.
Under her oversight, Ms. has increased its investigative reporting. One year after the vicious murder of abortion provider Dr. George Tiller, Ms. published a groundbreaking investigation exposing the connections between Tiller’s convicted murderer, Scott Roeder, and anti-abortion extremists who promote violence. The article, “Not a Lone Wolf,” won the prestigious “Maggie Award” from the Western Publisher’s Association for best feature article and a national award from Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
Spillar speaks to diverse audiences nationwide on a broad range of domestic and international feminist topics and appears frequently on television and radio. She has appeared on NPR’s Morning Edition, 60 Minutes, the Rachel Maddow Show, NPR’s Fresh Air with Terri Gross and Tell Me More with Michel Martin, the O’Reilly Factor, CNN, ABC Nightly News, CBS News, NBC, FOX, the Tavis Smiley Show, Politically Incorrect, and Hannity & Colmes. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban Studies from TCU, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, and an Interdisciplinary Master’s of Science degree in Economics, Urban Policy and Business from Trinity University.
