Domestic Terrorist Clayton Lee Waagner Captured

Feminist Majority Foundation President Urges Law Enforcement to Continue Investigation into Terrorist Network that Aided Waagner

WASHINGTON, DC – Leading abortion clinic defense group Feminist Majority Foundation was relieved today to learn that anti-abortion extremist Clayton Lee Waagner had been apprehended by federal law enforcement authorities. Feminist Majority Foundation President, Eleanor Smeal, urged federal authorities not to stop with the apprehension of Waagner.

“We hope that the information gained from the arrest of Clayton Waagner will bring those individuals that aided, abetted, and sheltered him to justice and will crack this network of domestic terrorists,” said Smeal.

Smeal also commended law enforcement for their hard work and diligent pursuit of the anti-abortion fugitive over the last ten months and urged them to continue their investigation.

“We recognize and congratulate the tireless efforts of the U.S. Marshal Service, the FBI, and the ATF,” said Smeal. “We hope that federal law enforcement agencies will now crack the terrorist network that is aiding, sheltering, and recruiting the Clayton Waagner’s of our country and the reign of terror that has been plaguing our nation’s reproductive health care clinics for more than 20 years. We continue to urge the Attorney General to designate the Army of God a terrorist organization.”

Clayton Waagner was apprehended outside of a Kinko’s in Springdale, Ohio Wednesday afternoon after a Kinko’s employee recognized him from a U.S. Marshal Service poster. The anti-abortion extremist escaped from an Illinois jail in February 2001 where he was awaiting sentencing on federal firearms violations and automobile theft. He has made numerous threats on the lives of abortion clinic personnel and patients and most recently was named the primary suspect in two rounds of anthrax threat letters sent to over 500 abortion and family planning clinics nationwide. He was listed on the “Most Wanted” lists of the FBI, US Marshal Service, and ATF.
