FEMINIST MAJORITY CALLS FOR KAREN HUGHES TO RETRACT OR CLARIFY HER COMMENTS IMPLYING ABORTION RIGHTS SUPPORTERS HAVE SAME VALUES AS TERRORISTS

Arlington, VA  Eleanor Smeal, President of the Feminist Majority and one of the seven core organizers of Sunday’s historic March for Women’s Lives, has sent a letter to Bush Campaign Advisory Karen Hughes demanding clarification and/or a retraction of Hughes’ comments to Wolf Blitzer on CNN on Sunday, implying that participants in the March held the same values as terrorists.

Calling her comments an outrage, Smeal’s letter to Hughes continues, “this kind of cynical, ugly and mean-spirited partisan rhetoric not only demeans those who attended the March, but also the vast majority of Americans who support reproductive health and abortion rights.

“On behalf of the Feminist Majority, one of the principal organizers of the March for Women’s Lives, the more than one million marchers, and the American people as a whole, I would hope that you immediately clarify and/or retract your statement and issue an apology,” continued Smeal.
