Feminist Majority Foundation to Hold Press Conference with Dr. Sima Samar

On Friday, March 27, the Feminist Majority Foundation will hold a press conference at the National Press Club on Afghan women and girls at a crucial time of U.S. decision-making on Afghanistan.

As the Obama/Biden Administration concludes its two months review of Afghanistan and formulates its plans on moving forward in the country, Dr. Sima Samar reviews the human rights conditions in Afghanistan, especially the deteriorating conditions of Afghan women and girls. Eleanor Smeal will announce a new campaign to help Afghan women and girls and to help ensure they will not be forgotten.

Dr. Sima Samar, M.D. is the Chair of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission, a leading authority on the condition of women and girls in Afghanistan, and founder of the Shahuda Organization, which runs some 12 medical clinics and 72 schools in Afghanistan. Samar has been the leading woman advocate for human rights in Afghanistan and is known internationally as well as in the US. Currently, she also serves as the UN Rapporteur on Darfur.
