Training, Networking for Web Women

DC Web Women, formerly known as DC Webgrrls, has separated from its association with Webgrrls International and adopted a non-profit structure to better meet the needs of its membership, which has grown from 21 to almost 1,500 member since the group first met.

The group will continue with its mission of empowering women to pursue careers in new media through training, networking, and sponsorship. “As more and more professional women take their careers to the Internet, DC Web Women will be their voice, their source for information and career growth, and their vehicle for service in the DC community,” said the group’s president, Jeanne Marshall.

The group’s resources include a e-mail list in which participants can discuss industry-related workplace issues, post questions and answers, and share information about events, products and job opportunities.

DC Web Women also offers low-cost hands on training workshops, opportunities for networking, and monthly meetings in which Web-related topics are discussed. In addition, the group offers special outreach events designed to encourage women and girls’ interest in technology. One such event is “Take Our Daughters to the Net Day,” scheduled for April 21 in conjunction with the Ms. Foundation’s Take Our Daughters to Work Day.

Membership in the group is free. For more information, check out DC Web Women’s online presence at http://www.dcwebwomen.org.
