133 student activists participated in a global leadership conference this weekend at Brown University. The conference, “Global Leadership Summit: Eliminating Violence, Empowering Women,” was co-hosted by the Feminist Majority Foundation and the Brown Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance. Participants in the conference came from 20 colleges in the region.
The weekend featured a variety of lectures and workshops, including speeches by Feminist Majority Foundation president Eleanor Smeal and keynote speaker Luz Rodriguez, co-founder and board-treasurer of SisterSong. Workshops focused on a broad spectrum of topics, including global reproductive rights, gender-based domestic and global violence, and the need for women to run for and hold political offices.
Eleanor Smeal told the Brown Daily Herald that: “The power of young women is totally under-utilized. They’re the driving force to change the world.”
