The American Association of University Women (AAUW) released a report on Monday showing the state-by-state status of the gender pay gap. The report, The Simple Truth about the Gender Pay Gap (PDF), was released in honor of Equal Pay Day, observed this year on April 17th.
The AAUW reports that nationwide, women make 77% of men’s earnings. The pay gap is lowest in Washington, DC, where women make 91% of men’s earnings. The widest pay gap was found in Wyoming, where women earn only 64% of what men earn.
In a press release , AAUW Executive Director Linda D. Hallman said, “Equal Pay Day, which this year falls on April 17, is an unfortunate reminder of how far we have to go to reach true pay equality. The wage gap hasn’t moved significantly in nearly a decade, and at this rate, we’ll be marking Equal Pay Day for the next 60 years.”
