A Catholic priest convicted of molesting four boys more than 1,350 times over five years was finally barred from church ministry and stripped of his priesthood by the Vatican yesterday. Rudolph “Rudy” Kos did not have his ordination nullified by the Vatican which would mean here that Kos was never an ordained priest in the eyes of the Church. The recent move by the Vatican now absolves the Dallas Diocese, where Kos served, of any financial responsibility for Kos should he be released from prison.
Kos, who was accused by more than 10 alter boys and the parents of an 11th that committed suicide, led to $119.6 million dollar verdict against the Catholic Diocese of Dallas, the largest clergy molestation settlement in history. He was suspended of his duties in 1993 and is now serving a life sentence in prison.
