Diana Roosevelt Jaicks, social activist and niece of Eleanor Roosevelt, died of colon cancer last Saturday.
Jaicks accomplishments include preventing the demolition of low-income housing while serving as co-chair of the NAACP’s urban renewal committee, being incarcerated for civil disobedience six times during the Vietnam War, and being a member of the board of directors at the Haight-Ashbury Food Program for the poor. She also worked for labor organization and picketed in San Francisco against discriminatory hiring policies.
