After 72 Years, Time Still Chooses “Man” of the Year

Near the end of a list of potentials for Time magazine’s annual Man of the Year award is Hillary Clinton.

Every year since 1927, Time has picked “a person who most shook up our world during the previous 12 months,” and called that person their Man of the Year.

Kenneth Starr, Bill Gates, Monica Lewinsky, and even Viagra are in the running for the title.

Why does Time still call their award Man of the Year? Perhaps it is due to the magazine’s history of awarding the title to men every year except 1976, when they honored all “American Women.”

Individuals can vote for the recipient of the award at http://cgi.pathfinder.com/time/moy/index.html or write to Time stating what you think about titling the award Man of the Year and their track record of who has been chosen as worthy of the title.
