Anti-Abortion Extremists Threaten to Sue Denver

Anti-abortion extremist groups have threatened to sue the city of Denver because they have not yet been given permits to demonstrate during the August 2008 Democratic National Convention. The city’s Parks and Recreation Department began accepting special-event applications for 2008 on Thursday, reports the Rocky Mountain News.

The city cut 14 parks from those available for special permits during the Convention because security issues have yet to be finalized with Denver and the Secret Service, according to parks and recreation spokeswoman Jill McGranahan.

The groups threatening to sue include Operation Rescue, a notorious anti-abortion extremist group that last month filed legal action against Dr. George Tiller, and the Christian Defense Coalition, who, according to the Rocky Mountain News, are known for graphic posters of aborted fetuses.
