Planned Parenthood/Chicago Area’s new clinic in Aurora, Illinois finally opened its doors today after being cleared of allegations of fraud. Aurora’s mayor granted the clinic an occupancy permit after three attorneys found the city had no legal basis to prevent the clinic from opening, reports the Chicago Tribune.
The clinic will begin treating patients this afternoon. The 22,000-square-foot building is the largest Planned Parenthood clinic yet built in the United States, and it will serve about 25,000 patients a year, with probably less than 10 percent of those abortion-related, reports Reuters.
“It’s always a victory when we can expand access to reproductive health care services, including abortion services,” Steve Trombley, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood/Chicago Area told the Associated Press. “If our opponents block us from entering any community, it opens the door to them blocking us from going into every community.”
