Betty Sutton Wins Ohio Primary

Betty Sutton, a pro-choice, Democratic Ohio State Representative, won her primary election and will now be the Democratic Party candidate for the US House of Representatives from Ohio’s 13th Congressional District. Sutton has a strong record on issues of women’s health, domestic violence and pay equity. Sutton’s campaign also emphasizes getting troops out of Iraq, fighting corruption in Washington, and promoting labor rights.

Sutton began at only 4 percent in the polls leading up to the primary, but she ultimately defeated Capri Cafaro and former Representative Tom Sawyer. Furthermore, the Akron Beacon Journal reports that Sutton had consistent levels of support in all of the four counties that make up the district. The 13th District is an open Democratic seat, meaning that Sutton will not have to battle an incumbent, and stands a good chance of defeating her Republican opponent, Craig Foltin, currently the Mayor of Lorain, Ohio.
