Braun Hires Feminist Leader Ireland to Run Campaign

Carol Moseley Braun announced on Monday that she has hired former National Organization for Women (NOW) president Patricia Ireland as her campaign chair. “Patricia Ireland and her team bring new energy and excitement to the campaign. With more than 20 years’ experience in national politics, Patricia Ireland also expands our outreach to activists and organizers, supporters and contributors, all across the country,” said Moseley Braun in a press statement.

Carol Moseley Braun is a smart, strong, forward-looking woman, and she’s the only candidate with experience in the legislative and executive branches, on domestic and foreign affairs,” Ireland said in a press statement. “Who better to be president of the United States at this pivotal time in our history, and to be the first woman and the first African American elected to the White House?” Moseley Braun has won major endorsements from NOW and the National Women’s Political Caucus.

In a recent Newsweek poll, Moseley Braun tied for fifth with Sen. John Kerry (MA) at 7 percent. On MSNBC’s “Hardball,” Moseley Braun said, “We’re in it to win. We’re going to stay in it through the convention,” according to the Associated Press.
