House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) was indicted today on one count of criminal conspiracy by a grand jury in Texas for violating the state’s election code. He has announced he will temporarily step down as majority leader under House Republican Party rules, according to the Associated Press.
Jim Ellis, the head of DeLay’s national political committee, and John Colyandro, former executive director of DeLay’s Texans for a Republican Majority were also indicted today on one count of conspiracy. Colyandro, Ellis, and Warren RoBold, another DeLay associate, were also indicted as part of the grand jury investigation in September last year.
