Chechen Government Plans to Recognize the Taliban

Chechnya, one of the former Soviet republics, has prepared to formally recognize the Taliban as the official government of Afghanistan. The recent decision was made by a Chechen delegation to Afghanistan headed by Abdul Wahid Ibrahim, head of Central Asian and Afghan affairs in Chechnya.

According to Taliban authorities, talks between the Chechen delegation and Taliban officials produced positive results. Both Chechen and Taliban officials plan to open embassies in their respective countries.

Only three other countries, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates, recognize the Taliban as the government of Afghanistan. Chechnya will become the fourth.
