Clinton Nominates Lachance for Office of Personnel Director

President Clinton accounced yesterday that he intended to nominate Janice R. Lachance for the position of Director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), an office where she is currently the Deputy Director.

Lachance has 17 years of experience with federal agencies, Congress, and labor organizations. She joined OPM in 1993 as Director of Communications, and moved up to Chief of Staff in 1996. Before that, she directed media affairs for the AFL-CIO. She has also held communications positions for members of Congress.

The OPM provides personnel services to federal agencies, employees and job seekers, administers governmental compensation systems, managing health insurance and providing benefits to retired employees.
