Crystal Awards Honor Women in Film

Cinematographer Amy Vincent, actor Whoopi Goldberg, and director Betty Thomas were among the award recipients at the 25th annual Crystal Awards in Los Angeles. The Crystal Awards honor individuals who have worked to expand the role of women in the entertainment industry. Amy Pascal, president of Columbia Pictures, said she has to defend her production of “chick flicks” like “Charlie’s Angels” and “A League of Their Own.” But rather than being ashamed, Pascal said she’s “proud of the messages they deliver.” Glenn Close, who played a feminist mother in the 1982 “The World According to Garp” was also honored. Close participated in last month’s Ms. Foundation Gloria Awards, as well as this year’s V-Day activities.
