The Democratic Platform Committee adopted a very strong platform for women this weekend in Pittsburgh. They recommitted that the Democratic Party support the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, enforcement of Title IX, ratification of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), reinstatement of United Nations Population Fund funding, and repeal of the global gag rule.
The platform also includes very strong planks on reproductive rights and violence against women. A very strong economic proposal for women is included that supports passage of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, paid family medical leave, 7 days paid sick leave, and increasing the minimum wage with yearly adjustments based on cost of living indices.
The platform, entitled “Renewing America’s Promise” will be presented at the Democratic National Convention in Denver later this month.
