House Democrats will cast their votes for minority whip on October 10. In the running are Reps. Steny Hoyer (MD) and Nancy Pelosi (CA). If Pelosi, a strong supporter of women’s rights and feminist causes, wins the post, she will become the highest-ranking woman ever in the U.S. House of Representatives. Pelosi expressed confidence in her ability to win stating “I look forward to Wednesday when this caucus will make history and make progress.”
The incoming minority whip will replace Rep. David Bonior (MI), an anti-choice vote in the House. Both Hoyer and Pelosi are pro-choice. As whip, Hoyer or Pelosi will be responsible for galvanizing Democratic support for select legislation.
