Don Imus’s Racist Comments Stir Controversy Again

Radio talk show host Don Imus again stirred controversy this week with racist comments about African Americans. Imus and his guest, Warner Wolf, were discussing the criminal record of suspended Dallas Cowboys football star Adam “Pacman” Jones. According to the Boston Herald, when Wolf mentioned that Jones had been arrested 6 times since 2005, Imus asked Jones’s race. When Wolf answered that Jones is African-American, Imus replied “Well, there you go. Now we know.”

Feministing reports that Imus is defending his comment as making a “sarcastic point.”

Imus was fired from CBS Radio last year for using a racist, sexist slur when describing the Rutgers women’s basketball team. He returned to the airwaves last December. His return followed a September 2007 Congressional hearing titled From Imus to Industry: The Business of Stereotypes and Degrading Images.
