February 9 Is National Girls and Women in Sports Day

Women’s groups across the country are celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day today. This day is meant to reinforce the positive impact sports participation has in the life of women and girls and commemorate the achievements of women and girls in sports, as well as acknowledge the continued fight women and girls must wage in order to obtain equal access and recognition in the world of sports. Women’s groups are working to protect Title IX, the 1972 federal law prohibiting sex discrimination in federally funded education, including athletic programs.
