Female Cadet Settles Suit with Citadel

Jeanie Mentavlos settled her sexual harassment lawsuit yesterday filed against the Citadel, a staff member, and two former cadets for up to $135,000 according to her lawyer, Dick Harpootlian. The military academy paid $100,000 to settle her lawsuit against it and a staff member. Mentavlos also settled with former cadet Eric Amhaus for $35,000 but still has a suit pending against three other cadets.

According to Mentavlos, she was shoved kicked and she had her clothes set on fire by fellow cadets. The settlement does not require the Citadel to admit liability. Another female cadet settled a lawsuit against the school in 1998 for $33,750.

“Jeanie Mentavlos lost a year of her life, and while this certainly doesn’t totally compensate her, it’s a large step in the right direction,” remarked Harpootlian.
