Filmmaker Who Criticized Treatment of Muslim Women Murdered

Dutch filmmaker, Theo van Gogh, who made films depicting the treatment of Muslim women, was shot dead today. According to Reuters, Van Gogh received several death threats after the release of his most recent film “Submission” that portrayed the life of a Muslim woman who was forced into an violent arranged marriage. Authorities have named a 26-year-old man with both Dutch and Moroccan citizenships, as the main suspect.

Van Gogh, grandson of the brother of the painter Vincent Van Gogh, also wrote a book that attacks Islamic militancy and accuses Muslim leaders of preaching hatred of women, reports Reuters.
