The Florida Department of Health test results of a white substance, claimed to be anthrax, found in a letter sent to a Florida abortion clinic came back negative for the presence of anthrax. Initial field tests of the substance were positive, however, field tests often produce false-positive results. More than 160 reproductive health clinics have received letters claiming to contain anthrax since Monday. The letters were signed by the Army of God and bared a return address from the U.S. Secret Service or U.S. Marshall Service. All of the letters tested negative for anthrax.
Anthrax threats, including hoaxes, are a violation of federal law. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is providing a $5,000 reward to anyone providing information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
