Florida Congress Approves Anti-Abortion License Plate

The Florida State House voted 77-41 in support of a law that will allow drivers to obtain a license plate with a picture of a child and the words “Choose Life.” The state Senate approved the bill by 28-12 earlier this week.

Anti-choice legislators argued that the license plate was a “generic affirmation of life” and said that Florida should consider a “policy of adoption over abortion,” according to a Reuters news article. Pro-choice lawmakers proposed a license plate that would read, “Adopt a Child,” but were voted down. State Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz said, “The real issue here is that this organization does not want to support adoption. They want to promote their political message.”

Money from the sale of the plates will go towards services for pregnant women and to promote adoption.
