Frankel Announces Candidacy for Florida Governor

Florida House Democratic Leader Lois Frankel announced her candidacy for the 2002 governor’s race yesterday, joining a growing list of challengers to Jeb Bush. Known as a leading spokesperson for an unbiased recount after the 2000 presidential election, Frankel has served in the Florida House since 1986 and became its first female Democratic leader.

“It’s time we had a governor who believes people are more important than corporations, children are more important than irresponsible tax breaks and seniors are more important than political payoffs,” Frankel said. Frankel said that her priorities as governor would be increased funding for public schools, better pay for school teachers and giving patients the right to sue their health maintenance organizations.
