Georgetown President Renews First Female Law Dean’s Contract

Georgetown University President Leo O’Donovan reversed his decision to replace Judith Areen, the first woman to head a national law school. Amid protests from students, faculty, alumni and distinguished board members, including Clinton attorney Robert S. Bennett, Donovan announced that he would renew Areen’s contract for five more years.

Areen has served as Law Center Dean for Georgetown University for nine years. She is credited with recruiting prominent faculty and raising considerable funds for the center.
