Gloria Steinem, feminist author and co-founder of Ms. magazine, will mark the anniversary of Roe v. Wade with the Feminist Majority Foundation by making a special online guest appearance January 23, 8:00pm EST at www.feministcampus.org. Steinem will chat with student activists about the importance of reproductive rights and the impending threat to Roe v. Wade, among other feminist issues.
Steinem’s appearance will correspond with the Feminist Majority Foundation’s One Million Voices grassroots campaign, January 22-27. Campus and community groups throughout the nation will conduct pro-choice actions and host events to raise awareness of the challenges to Roe v. Wade, the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion in 1973. Currently, legal abortion hangs by a razor-thin 5-4 margin in the Supreme Court. If one or more Supreme Court justices retires, anti-choice President Bush will have the opportunity to pack the Court with anti-abortion Justices, relegating women to the days of back alley abortions.
