Golf’s Susan Jackson Dies of Breast Cancer

Suzanne Jackson died at age 46 from breast cancer Wednesday. She was often called the most respected rules official in golf.

Since 1985, Jackson was a member of the USGA Rules of Golf Committee, and was one of the first three women to officiate a U.S. Open. She was the very first woman rules official for the PGA Championship. Later in that same year, 1990, Jackson was asked to officiate at The Masters. Since 1991, she had been the LPGA’s director of tournament operations.

Two years ago, Jackson received the Patty Berg Award for outstanding contributions to women’s golf.
