Gore Demands Equality for Women

U.S. Vice President Al Gore called for 100 percent equality for women while speaking at the Women’s Leadership Forum of the Democratic National Committee Friday. Gore said, “We must get past the age-old prejudice … and make America into a democracy molded every bit as much by women as by men.”

Gore commented on the forum’s campaign to garner contributions and other support from 100,000 women for the year 2000 national election. “There is absolutely no substitute for aggressive grass-roots recruitment in building up a powerful political network that can force women’s issues to the top of the policy debate and bring out the women’s vote that was so vital to the election victories in 1992 and 1996.”

Gore said that Democrats must emulate the 19th century suffragists. “Anything less than 100 percent equality is an insult to their memory and an offense against every baby girl born in America.”
