Outspoken head of the right wing Christian Coalition, Pat Robertson, shocked those on both sides of the abortion debate this week by voicing support for China’s “forced abortion” policy in a televised CNN interview. Asked his opinion on the policy, Robertson declared China’s government is “doing what they have to do” to prevent overpopulation. He also stated that the U.S. should not interfere with “what they’re doing internally in this regard.” Head of the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (NARAL), Kate Michelman, stated to the Washington Post that Robertson’s remarks reveal the “deeply cynical side of his views…The only thing he is consistent about is his opposition to the right of women to choose.”
