Twenty-four-year-old Awad Mohammad threw kerosene on his wife and set her on fire, killing her, after she disobeyed his command to sleep on the floor and attempted to use the couple’s bed instead. Safaa Metwalli, 20 died from severe burns.
The couple, who lived in a small Indian village, had been having marital problems stemming from Mohammad’s unemployment. Mohammad was unemployed and had refused to help his wife with her work selling sandwiches from a cart.
Mohammad has been arrested and will be tried for the murder.
