A 40-year old woman was burned to death by her upper-caste relatives in Bhawanipur, a village in northern India.
Siya Dulari was murdered because her 15-year old son eloped with a 17-year old girl from an upper caste. The girl’s father and several other men abducted and held Dulari hostage for a week and raped her before setting her on fire, charring her body almost beyond recognition. Dulari’s husband abandoned her in village the previous week in fear of an attack of this nature.
Police are in search of eight men who participated in this crime.
